Upgrading the Indian malls- why and what needs fixing?
Can we imagine today’s urban landscape without shopping malls? The mushroom growth of malls in the last decade clearly highlights the fact that we prefer a one-stop destination for shopping, entertainment, dining, and socializing. However, a closer glimpse of the Indian malls reveals some shortcomings when compared to their international counterparts. One of the prominent differences is in design and infrastructure. International malls can boast of innovative layouts, high-end design, and state-of-art architecture. How many Indian malls can stand out in comparison?
A wide range of retail options, including niche boutiques, high-end luxury brands, and other international retail chains are part of international malls. A limited selection of brands and a few retail outlets can lead to an uninteresting shopping experience in Indian malls. When we can get luxe brands at discounts from online stores, we would hardly make the effort to visit malls.
Customer service is another aspect where our Indian malls lag behind. In any international mall, a team of well-trained staff is ready to pay attention to every need of the customers. In most Indian malls, this customer-centric approach is missing. Some of the outlets even lack adequate staff.
Disparities are clear. It’s time we address these issues to provide a high-end mall experience.
