Can AI revolutionize the hiring process in an unorganized sector?
Recently, I came across a very interesting piece of information. A team from the reputed Harvard Business School reviewed the hiring process of businesses in the UK, US, and Germany. Most business leaders revealed that they are using artificial intelligence to save expenses and time for recruitment. The research, however, revealed that88% of recruiters are aware that AI tools reject even skilled candidates.
Can we consider AI’s role in the recruitment process in an unorganized sector? I feel that this query comes with a lot of challenges. AI algorithms rely heavily on data. In a country like India, appropriate data is almost unavailable in the unorganized sector. How would the algorithms find the right individual if data is scarce?
Another essential factor, I think, is the match between skills and standardized job descriptions. If the role is not well-defined and the skills are not clearly revealed, the AI algorithms cannot find the match. For instance: a carpenter may have some plumbing knowledge as well. This can only come up when human interaction is there.
Intuition, trust, and personal interaction are very crucial when looking for workers in an unorganized sector. The AI algorithms cannot emphasize these aspects. We can rely on AI tools to assist us in decision-making. However human astuteness and word-of-mouth knowledge are crucial for the hiring process.
Do you agree?
